Rafah Baby's Survival Turns to Tragedy as She Dies 18 Days After Birth

A newborn baby who miraculously survived when her mother was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza has now tragically died, just 18 days after her birth.

A Nightmare After a Miracle

Named Talas, the baby was still in the womb when her mother, 20-year-old Tala Abu Al-Atawi, was killed in the airstrike on April 22, 2024. Rescuers rushed to the scene and miraculously found the infant alive and breathing.

Medical teams at the Emirati Hospital in Rafah provided round-the-clock care for Talas, hoping to give her a chance at life. However, the infant's health deteriorated over the past few days, and she passed away on Monday, May 9, at just 18 days old.
